What is 'Migration in a box'?
Many organisations planning a migration project seek specialist help in delivery and traditionally approach a Systems Integrator for the entire project. But before a Systems Integrator can determine the project timeframe and provide accurate costs, they need to investigate the environment, identify potential issues and problems and gain a thorough understanding of the business and its objectives.
The reason Parative have created the ‘Migration in a box’ package is that we have performed so many migrations that we are able to consistently deliver migrations within a timeframe that we can tell you up front. And having successfully completed migration projects for over 140 companies and in excess of 1 million users, we know the questions to ask, and have already encountered and resolved all of the issues that your business is likely to face during a migration.
From our extensive experience we have identified two types of tailor made solutions that mix and match our delivery components. These are the ‘Enablement’ and ‘Managed’ styles of migration. Each is tailored to suit a specific type of client with certain needs. We can of course offer you a complete tailored migration, but below we offer you the details and estimated days needed for the two most common scenarios.
'Enablement' Migration in a Box
The ‘Enablement Migration in a Box’ consists of the discovery, design, documentation and pilot phases of the project, followed by comprehensive training of your IT staff so that you can complete the migration internally. Additional services include a migration ‘health check and support’ pack to check the migration tools on a weekly basis and provide remote analysis of faults and issues that may arise with specific workstations or servers during the migration.
The timeframe to deliver an ‘Enablement Migration in a Box’ will dependent on the complexity of your organisation and whether you choose to create a Proof of Concept environment, or deliver straight into live. But from discovery to handover is typically around 30 days for a two forest/two exchange organisation merger or divestiture.
Suitable for clients who:
- Have project management and migration skills already inside the business;
- Do not have strict deadlines for the migration completion dates;
- Already have a suitable proof of concept lab built and ready;
- Have internal IT Support staff that can be dedicated to the project for
as long as it takes; - Accept the additional risk associated with using internal resources to complete the migration.
Steps to a simple Enablement Migration
'Managed' Migration in a BoxDeveloped for organisations that want a specialist provider to deliver the entire migration project, 'Managed Migration in a Box' consists of all migration phases, delivered according to the PRINCE2 methodology that Parative have tailored specifically for migrations.For a managed migration we are able to move to Pilot and Live migrations faster than an 'enablement' migration as we don't need to produce all of the handover and training documents as we will be leaving one of our highly experienced on-site technicians to undertake daily migrations and troubleshoot any issues that occur. Our experience shows that from Initiation through to Pilot averages around 20 days for a 1 to 1 migration, followed by the phased migration of grouped users. Typically, between 50 Users or 200 Mailboxes can then be successfully migrated on a daily basis (depending on whether it is an email or user/workstation migration). Suitable for clients who:
